Comparison of morphine, ketoprofen and Arnica montana 6x and 30x per oral transmucosal or subcutaneous route for control of postoperative pain in cats subjected to hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy Ciência Rural
Rodrigues,Denise de Fátima; Luna,Stelio Pacca Loureiro; Brondani,Juliana Tabarelli; Minto,Bruno Watanabe.
ABSTRACT: The postoperative analgesic effect of Arnica montana (Arnica) was compared to morphine and ketoprofen in 50 cats following hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (HSO). Cats were randomly allocated to five groups (n=10) and were treated 30 minutes before surgery and over 72 hours with 1ml of Arnica 30x per subcutaneous (SC) route (GA30SC); Arnica 30x per oral transmucosal route (P.O.) (GA30PO); Arnica 6x P.O. (GA6PO); morphine 0.1mg kg-1 SC (GM) SID or ketoprofen 2mg kg-1 SC (GK) before and 1mg kg-1 after surgery. Sedation and postoperative pain were assessed by means of a dynamic and interactive visual analogue scale (DIVAS) and variable count scale (VCS) and hyperalgesia using an esthesiometer. Whenever the VAS and VCS scores...

Minilaparoscopic ovariohysterectomy in healthy cats Ciência Rural
Lawall,Thaíse; Beck,Carlos Afonso de Castro; Queiroga,Luciana Branquinho; Santos,Fabiane Reginatto dos.
ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility of minilaparoscopic (MINI) ovariohysterectomy (OHE) in healthy cats using three portals, one of 5 millimeters (mm) in diameter and two of 3mm diameter, along with bipolar diathermy. Technical difficulty, feasibility of MINI access, use of bipolar diathermy, surgery time, need for enlargement of incisions, trans- and post-operative complications and rate of conversion to open surgery were assessed. One out of 15 animals required incision enlargement, and one animal required conversion to celiotomy. The main postoperative complication observed was subcutaneous emphysema (46.7%). In conclusion, MINI OHE is feasible in healthy cats.

Pure-transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) ovariohysterectomy in bitches: a preliminary feasibility study Ciência Rural
Silva,Marco Augusto Machado; Toniollo,Gilson Hélio; Cardoso,Karym Christine de Freitas; Quarterone,Carolina; Brun,Maurício Veloso.
Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) is a relatively new surgical access for minimally invasive surgery, which is being widely studied in human medicine. However, few studies focusing on its applicability in the small animal practice have been performed so far. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the feasibility of pure-NOTES transvaginal ovariohysterectomy in bitches. Five bitches were evaluated. The abdomen was accessed through an 11mm trocar inserted through a vaginal incision. Using a rigid endoscope with working channel, the ovarian pedicles were coagulated and sectioned using bipolar diathermy. The uterine horn was pulled into the trocar and exteriorized along with the cannula. The uterine body and vessels were coagulated...

Surgical time and complications of total transvaginal (total-NOTES), single-port laparoscopic-assisted and conventional ovariohysterectomy in bitches Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Silva,M.A.M.; Toniollo,G.H.; Flores,F.N.; Valadão,C.A.A.; Medeiros,R.M.; Cardilli,D.J.; Gering,A.P.; Teixeira,P.P.M.; Serafini,G.M.C.; Coutinho-Júnior,A.S.; Libardoni,R.N.; Brun,M.V..
The recently developed minimally invasive techniques of ovariohysterectomy (OVH) have been studied in dogs in order to optimize their benefits and decrease risks to the patients. The purpose of this study was to compare surgical time, complications and technical difficulties of transvaginal total-NOTES, single-port laparoscopic-assisted and conventional OVH in bitches. Twelve bitches were submitted to total-NOTES (NOTES group), while 13 underwent single-port laparoscopic-assisted (SPLA group) and 15 were submitted to conventional OVH (OPEN group). Intra-operative period was divided into 7 stages: (1) access to abdominal cavity; (2) pneumoperitoneum; approach to the right (3) and left (4) ovarian pedicle and uterine body (5); (6) abdominal or vaginal...

Ultrasonic shears and bipolar vessel-sealing system for three-port laparoscopic ovariohysterectomy in dogs Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Guizzo-Júnior,N.; Feranti,J.P.S.; Bairros,M.C.; Bortoluzzi,M.; Motta,A.C.; Sartori,L.W.; Santos,F.R.; Tomazzoni,F.V.; Brambatti,G.; Guedes,R.L.; Silva,M.A.M.; Brun,M.V..
In the current experimental study, two different instruments were compared for prophylactic hemostasis during a 3-port technique of laparoscopic ovariohysterectomy (OVH) in bitches. Moreover, the need for port enlargement for specimen retrieval using 5mm or 10mm trocartes, technical difficulties and complications were assessed. Ultrasonic energy and a vascular sealing system were tested. Duration of surgery, patient weight and diameter of the uterine arteries and veins were compared among the groups. Fifteen dogs randomly divided into three groups (GI, GII, GIII) were submitted to ovariohysterectomy with hemostasis from the use of ultrasonic scalpel or vascular sealing equipment. In GI and GII the LigaSure(tm)impedance-controlled bipolar vessel-sealing...
